So...how y'all doing. Are y'all even still out there? I haven't been by in a couple of months.
First...well...I'm alive.
Let's see...uh...oh, right...in my last post I announced I got into the Fringe. Bit of news on that front...I dropped out. With work and travel and all that I concluded that I didn't have the time to really do the show right. And on weekends I'm tired. This is problematic as it's the only time I'd be able to write and rehearse the show. And I really didn't want to screw around with casting it and promoting it and all that crap. And, really, I'd rather take a week off to go somewhere with Jill than take a week off to do the show. So...I bailed. Generally, I'm okay with this but, yeah, I have a bit of wistfulness about not being in the festival.
Been working in Green Bay since January. Most likely, I'll be wrapping up things there in a couple of weeks. Just when the weather is going from ghastly (2nd heaviest snowfall year ever and really, really cold) to nice. It's a really pretty place when it greens up and warms up. And then I'm probably back down in Florida for 4-6 weeks. Just as it starts to get so hot I'd rather be just about anywhere else. Sigh. I've got to work on my seasonal placement of consulting gigs.
Said gig in Green Bay has been pretty cool to work on. Part of the thing with Diamond is we guard our client's confidentiality so it would be inappropriate to talk about the company or even the industry. But it's been fun. The weekly travel now that I'm back in consulto-land gets to be a drag. But the work I get to do on this particular gig and some of the side projects I get to bang around on (developing ideas for us to pitch to prospects on working on white papers and articles and the like) is invigorating. Even when the hours are long. It also helps that the Diamond folks not only allow me to do weird shit like run off and do my shows, but they even encourage and embrace it. Back at the beginning of March I ran off to DC to do Staggering. Diamond has a few people living in the area and some were nice enough to come down and see the show. The experience was all the more enjoyable 'cause Jim Dougan and his wonderful wife Rachel came down to the gig and I got to go grab some victuals with 'em post-show. I worked with Jim during my first go 'round with Diamond and he was (and is) one of my favorite people on this here ball of life.
Long shot teaser to the West Coast: the firm I work for is looking at some opportunities out your way. I have no idea what they are or if I'd be even vaguely qualified but as most of the consultant-types live in Chicago or parts east alot of folks prefer not to do west coast gigs. It's a whole passel of flight time. This is unlike my commute from Minneapolis to Green Bay which consists of a 10:30am flight out on Monday (but it's on Northwest so that means it's late...always) and into Green Bay 45 minutes later. However, I will lobby shamelessly to be put on any West Coast gig I hear about. I'll keep y'all informed if anything breaks on that front.
Jazz Fest starts tomorrow. First time in five years I won't be going. Brother Jake, Allegra and my ownself are heading to Denver on May 10th (weekend after the Jazz Fest ends) to do Glorious Noise. We gotta do a little rehearsing (and when I say "we" I mean "me"...they're fine...I gotta get my shit together) and since I only have weekends to do that I can't afford not to be home for either of the festival weekends. Sigh, again. I was cool with this about a month ago when it dawned on me I wasn't going to be able to go. But, now...I'm missing the hell out of it. It doesn't help that it's in the 80's in New Orleans and tomorrow we're supposed to get some snow. Yeah...you read that right. On April-fuckin'-twenty-goddamn-fifth it's supposed to snow.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
If you're in Denver on May 10th, mosey on over to the Newman Center at the University of Denver to catch Glorious Noise.
